As parents, there are days when we all feel like we just don’t know what we’re doing. Whether our child is throwing a fit in the store, or we can't figure out how to get out of the house on time, or even realizing that we left the house with spit-up on our clothing, it sometimes feels like we just can't get our act together. But, with a few tricks up your sleeve, you can always look like you've got it all under control, no matter how you feel on the inside.
Part 1
Simplify Your Wardrobe
We all have items in our closet that we never wear. If it's been more than 6 months, it might be time to donate it. According to Elite Daily, successful people wear the same thing every day. This doesn't mean you have to wear the same exact outfit each day, but decide what you want your look to be and scale down your wardrobe so that you always have something to wear that you are confident and comfortable in. Build yourself a uniform and you'll always feel good about how you look.
Cut Down the Clutter
If your house always looks like kids run the show (like mine) you will never feel like you have it together. It's impossible to keep the house 100% tidy with young children. It just is. But simple tricks - like strategically placed baskets - can help you cut down on the mess and provide you with the perfect spots to stash stuff when unexpected guests arrive. In addition, take any opportunity you can to actually get rid of items you and your family no longer use. Clothing, toys, and books can all be donated to people who need them instead of taking up space in your home.
Simplify Your Look
How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? If it's so long that you don't have time to get other things done and you're always running out the door, it might be time to refine your look. A simple haircut can make a world of difference. Highlights versus full color will require less maintenance, and a bob cut instead of long locks will make it easier and faster to style your hair. If you love your long hair and just don't feel comfortable in a bob (like me) find an easy hairstyle that doesn't make you feel sloppy. A cute, low bun or a braid are both quick and easy!
Carry the Essentials
In your bag should be the following: a stain remover pen or wipes for those spills and spit-up moments; a pen, a notebook, activity items to keep your child occupied (like those little coloring packs), snacks, drinks (for the kids not you), business cards, and any other items that you have needed on more than one occasion - like diapers and wipes. You'll be ready for anything.
Clean Your Car
Kids and cars — oh the messes. Get a garbage for your car and make sure you use it. Once a week or once every other week, clean out everything in your car. It's embarrassing to open your car doors at school or church or work and have papers, wrappers, and lost mittens spill out. And if a friend needs an unexpected ride, you won't have to move a pile off the passenger seat.
No matter how frazzled you feel on a given day, making a few small changes can make you look like you’ve got it all together. And once you simplified your routine, you won't just look like you've got it together, you actually will.
