I had external piles removed, external skin tags, and a fissure, all in hospital, under general anesthetic. I'm now on day 7 of recovery and its still very sore after Bowel Movements. I'm constantly sitting in the bath to get relief, taking just paracetamol and ibuprophen, as iv not felt the need for stronger meds. My diet is excellent, my stools are very soft, I'm not straining. How much longer is this going to go on for, is there ever going to be an end to this pain??? Iv become a prisoner in my own home, walking round slowly like an old lady. I'm only 34, its not how I imagined my life to be at all. Is anyone the same as me???

I had a hemorrhoidectomy two weeks ago. The doctor warned me that recovery process would be painful. But I didn't think it would be this intense. Here are a few tips to ease the pain. It make a world of difference in pain management for me: 1) ice packs, most ice packs are not shaped for your butt and the flat ones only numb the buttocks not the surgical site where you need relief. So make your own! But diapers (any size 3-6) and fill it with water and put it in a ziplock bag (for hygienic storage) and in the freezer. Once frozen, the diapers are curved perfectly to your area and won't drop either since the gel is designed to hold in liquid. I use one diaper for several time before tossing. Just put it in a ziplock bag and refreeze. 2) clean yourself with squirt bottles, not even wet toilet paper or baby wipes were gentle enough post surgery when the area is extremely raw I bought two big squirt bottles at the drug store and fill me up before any bowel movements. 3) boneal-- after cleansing the anus with the squirt bottles, I apply boneal (otc lotion for anal cleaning) lotion on toilet paper and dab it on my anus. It's relieves the pain and itching that come later in the healing process. 4) sitz bath. Do this 2-3 times a day and definitely after a bowel movement. Sometimes, I have my bowel movements in the sitz bath to east the pain. Just remember to rinse it with soap and hot water right away if you have a bowel movement in there so you don't sit in fecal water and develop a uti on top of everything else. 5) if possible, stick to lots of veggies and soups for the first two weeks to allow the wound to heal. No starchy foods and anything binding!!! These tips were given to me by the maternity nurses after I had a baby, but they are completely relevant here and I am especially grateful for the ice pack diaper trick! It was the ONLY way an ice pack can be applied to that anus area and not to my butt cheeks. Good luck and speedy recovery.

GARCIA. My friend had an internal hemorrhoids surgery more than 2 months. She told me that it was with laser and it is very painful when the stool is coming out. She eats right, She likes to do the sitz bath with hot water because she fills good when she has the pain, she is taking physillum one time a day. When she goes more than one time to the bathroom, she fills terrible, and she has to take ibuprofen. She doesn't.know what to do because she needs to go back to work as a driver. Please, somebody can help me what else she needs to do.

Hii guys, it's been 02 weeks since I was operated for external hemorroids and also for deep anal fissure cuts. Touchwood, I'm much much better now and relieved of the pain by almost. 70%. It is essential to have plenty of water and fruits and lots of GREEN veggies. I would advise not to have breads, etc initially which harden the stool. As soon as you wake up, have 2 glasses of warm water. For breakfast have porridge with dry fruits. After an hour or so have fresh coconut water(as it's equal to 10 glasses of water) and we need to drink almost 03 liters of water a day.. Again a while later have a bowl of fruits where Papaya is a MUST. For lunch have green veggies - cooked, salads comprising of lettuce, carrots, etc. Follow the same in evening with coconut water, papayas/fruits and plenty of water. Before going to bed, take 4-4 pieces of big black dried grapes and boil then in milk. Have the milk and chew the grapes. These all help Immensely for speedy recovery from surgeries and go easy on the bowels.....Good luck to all...God bless

I have a hemorrhoid ectomy six days ago....... I have to say the pain is incredible and if they told me about it honestly I probably would have continued the old routine...... I get nauseous just thinking about having to have a bowel movement and in fact did throw up during the first two times ...... I decided to go online to look for post surgical pain remedies..... I take three so I am fiber tablets with every meal, the stool softeners prescribed by the doctor twice a day and oxycodone every six hours.... I tried to brave it out as I am concerned about pain meds but it's like a timer within an hour of the time for the dose the pain returns so I'm going to take it as prescribed for the remainder of the pills ..... so what I read here it's all good information with the exception of pooping in the sitz bath ....dangerous stuff I believe.... Hot Epsom salts Sitz bathes stay in the water until it cools about 20 minutes do it often....Drink of water, eat soft food, stool softeners, fiber if you don't eat a high-fiber diet... Bed rest is the best medicine he takes pressure off the bowel and allows Your body the down time to heal more quickly...... I suppose at some point I'll be glad I did this but I wonder.... There are incredible new non-surgical procedures with Great success I think it's time healthcare providers cease this barbaric surgery and educate themselves and their patients to the alternatives..... good luck everyone I can say with 100% confident I feel your pain

My hemorrhoidpexy was one week ago today and the pain after surgery was mind blowing . I have found it normal not to have a bowel movement for the first 2-3 days following surgery. The doctor gave me a script for lortab 10 mg and it certainly was not enough ,I added 600 mg of ibuprofen every 6 hours with the lortab and it helped a great deal .I set the alarm and made sure to take my meds 4 times a day to stay ahead of the pain. Also look for Recticare at your local pharmacy it is 5% lidocaine over the counter and well worth the $29.99 a tube for the pain relief .Laying down rather than sitting up puts less stress on your hemorrhoids so stay in bed as much as possible . Mineral oil at 2 to 3 tablespoons will get your bowels to moving after all of the drugs in your system and make your first b.m. much easier .Drink plenty of water and follow a healthy diet as others have said . This is a very tough surgery but these methods have helped me in dealing with the pain .I cant suggest any treatment for you but have listed what has helped me . Good luck for those of us who have had surgery know what you are going thru .

I had a surgical hemorrhoidectomy (Parks procedure: scalpel and removal of all 3 hemorrhoid plexus all for internal piles) 17 days ago. Yes the pain was large (I would say a "6" on the scale of 1-10, "10" being the greatest). I opted to forego the Oxycodone that was prescribed and went with Extra-Strength Tylenol. I was able to sleep without a problem. After two days I went to standard-strength Tylenol. There was some minor bleeding and draining, but not that bad. I am not one to dwell on pain, and so it doesn't get to me like most of my friends. If you opt for this procedure, have it done on Wednesday and return to work the second Monday thereafter. All other procedures are pretty much a "management" solution and the hemorrhoids (sic: should be called "piles") will (almost always) return. Do they come back in 6 months, a year, 3 years? It all depends on the person (lifestyle (which no one knows what causes them, precisely) and DNA). There are a lot of theories, but no one knows why they only occur in humans though many mammals have hemorrhoid plexuses (plexi?). I must admit, after dealing with piles for 3 years it is GREAT not having to deal with their prolapsing (no bleeding in my case). I would definitely have the procedure done again, as I am 100% today (well, stitches are still there and not "absorbed" yet). For those that are afraid (and detest) pain, "banding" is probably the choice. The pain is about the same, but only lasts an hour or two (not 4-6 days). You will probably end up with the procedure being done every 3 years (depends on the person: it may be permanent). I prefer "fixing" things so I never have the problem again. I don't use duct tape. I fix it! Recovery: I'm cleared to do everything after 17 days except anal intercourse. The doc says another month, so for you gay guys, or guys that like their wives playing with dildoes, plan on 8 weeks for that activity. Hope this helps your decision making!
