The best technique i have found is too simply breathe in deeply for seven counts, brearhe out for 7-8 counts repeat about 10 times; concentrating on your breathing.....i was skeptical but i found this works.

Try breathing in through your nose, filling your abdomen and continuingl to fill your lungs. Then slowly empy your abdomen and then your chest, breathing t through your mouth. Do this exercise five to seven times. This really calms the body and mind. Do again if needed.
