I'm almost positive that this is an addiction. It calms me when I'm stressed or nervous, if I don't have it I'm like a ticking bomb I literally can not go a day with out. I've tried. Longest I've went is like 4 hours I even wake up in my sleep 2-4 times to eat a cup of ice and then I go back to sleep.

I eat 6-8 44 oz cups of ice a day. Can't live without it!

I love eating ice but I eat it according to its availability....after school then before i sleep. Those two add up to about 36 cubes a day, it isn't as severe as the other situations I've read about however, is it a habit / disorder? I am a singer and my mom doesn't take kindly to me eating ice because the temperature isn't suitable for my vocal chords. If it helps, I've had an intense nail biting issue ever since i was two and I turned 14 less than two weeks ago and this started about four to five months back. I'm slightly convinced i'ts due to the weather because I live in Jamaica...but I've lived here all my life. Can anyone tell me why I do this and how I can stop?

I am 41 years old & my ice addiction started when I was pregnant with my children, however my youngest is now gonna be 9 in Feb & I'm still eating ice everyday as if it were nothing, & not just 2-3 cups, i have 8 ice cube trays in my freezer & it's to the point where I fill up gatorade bottles & bring them to work with me, I have not seen a Dr. in several years, so i do not know for sure if I'm anemic or not, I can only assume, but it's so hard to stop when it's something I crave everyday/all day....

I have been crunching on ice for over 40 years now. I see a doctor regularly and do not have any kind of iron deficiency. It is just something I do and it drives my wife totally crazy! I do have persistent dry mouth due to some of my meds, but I started way before I took medications of any type. It started when I was a kid growing up in the snow belt. I loved eating snow and those wonderful icicles! I don't purchase ice anywhere, I get it from my freezer/fridge. I purchased a new Samsung fridge and the icemaker is actually in the fridge, so the ice comes out a lot softer than normal and I love it!
