All these comments are incredible! I am 53 years old, and lived in the same home using the same water all my life. I started getting super itchy and then broke out with red rash welts all over my body. At first I thought it was something I ate that I might be allergic to, but now, I am near certain its in my hot water! I had recently replace my hot water heater, and within weeks, I was was getting a rotten egg/sewer smell coming from the hot water, so I did research and determined the anode rod in the water heat made the water smell, so I then replace the anode rod with an aluminum rod, this is when the itching and rash began. I have well water which sometimes reacts very badly with what is naturally in the when heated and combined with the anode rod that begins to corrode inside the tank. Once I realized that I am sensitive and allergic to certain types of metal, I immediately went over to a friends house and showered and shampooed my hair, and used towels and new clothing that were washed before the water heater being installed. Within minutes, the itching was disappearing, and within hours, the red welt rash is going away and fading. They also sell titanium roads which I will try next. I can't shower at home right now, I'm too scared! I am using bottled water and someone else's water for showering. I won't even brush my teeth, I got a fat swelling lip, and red eye irritation as well. This type of problem occurs more often with well water. I feel so sad that some people here have gone years dealing with the itching. This is no way to live. These last 2-3 days have been horrible. I do believe I found a solution for me, I only hope it can help you too. BTW! Years ago I also had to return a 14k necklace because some of the metal within it gave me a rash. My skin must be quite sensitive to different types of medals. Good luck everyone. I feel your pain!

Also had this problem for 23 years. I'm now 35. Cannot use swimming pools, showers or swim in sea. For me i think the trigger is change of temperature. Only thing that works is hot bath (don't want to try cold, brrrr) with portable fan heater. I like bubble bath but haven't found bath products to help or worsen itching. During bath the room is heated, then i get out, use towel in front of fan heater then pick up fan heater and use to finish drying body all over. Helps to open door during drying so that room doesn't heat so much that i then sweat! The sensation of moving air on body also part of reason this works for me. Using this method to wash I don't itch afterwards. About three years ago I used a hot tub and found when i got out there was no sign of itching - miracle!! Since then have used a hot tub probably five more times and every time no itching and not even warm room required to dry, miracle. Still don't know why. I'm going to try taking vitamin supplements after reading comments here to see if these help. I have tried all the different creams to stop itching but they just make it worse. When i get itchy (eg if forced to use shower when hotel room doesn't have bath) it 'just' lasts for around 20-30 minutes but is extremely intense. In this case rather than itching myself i rub itchy patches quite lightly continuously with my finger tips or loose clothes until itching stops. More observations - i have to be really careful what washing machine stuff i use, now settled on fairy non-bio but still get some itching in bed though never from daytime clothes(?!!!). I've heard some washing machines still leave residue so am going to try an additional rinse cycle at end. Also something about my skin is that I NEVER get bitten from mosquitos! Luke

I am so grateful i found this informative page. This itchy skin condition has been terrorizing me for the past 14 years. I have never talked to anyone about it but i know my brothers are also suffering from the same. It is an extremely embarrassing condition you cant even tell your best friend about it. When others are enjoying a nice time in the beach or pool you have to make excuses as to why you can not join them. I must say that since i found this page last night i feel soooo much better about it as now I know Im not the only one or its not only in my family, but rather a common thing. Thanks a lot guys for sharing your experiences. Talking really does heal the soul. My only solution to this condition has been to take HOT showers. Warm or cold water are not my friend. For the past 5 years I have been burning myself. I noticed that when my body was warm from the hot water, there would be no itching no matter the temperature outside of the bathroom and this really works for me. I have tried different soaps, lotions, towel textures etc and none of them changed anything, just the hot shower. I am going to consider some of the advices i have seen here and hopefully it works, since it appears there's no universal solution to this thing. I am really looking forward to the day some doctor out there finally figures this out. Good luck to all of us victims.

DEAR FRIENDS... PLS TRY THESE STEPS , IT WORKED FOR ME 1. Apply OIL (especially the body parts itches) before taking bath - I use Coconut Oil, I think Olive or Mustard also good. 2.During weekends apply oil (whole body) leave it for 1 to 2 hours then take bath. 3. Try to take bath before sun rise ie early morning . It ithches the most at noon. 4. Don't take too much time for bathing. This Worked for me. Hope this helps you too

These comments are great. Let me add my own narrow experience maybe it will help. It might have something to do with what we're eating like leaky gut. I know for sure its possible to be allergic to a staple of your diet and not know it simply because you've never not felt what it feels like to be not-allergic or haven't had a bad enough reaction to say "This is what an allergy feels like." I had that experience when I reacted to some medication and I realized that the things I was doing to relieve the itching/tingling were some actions that I do everyday like rubbing myself on stuff, squeezing my hands etc. I never realized til that moment that those things weren't just quirky, idiosyncratic tics but indicative of allergies. Anyone about the itching. Normally my itching is pretty low key, noticeable enough that I try to find some cold air after getting out of the shower by turning on a fan or something but usually gone in 5-10 minutes. Today's was much worse though and I think I know why: I found out last night that I'm allergic to graham crackers. I ate like 4 crackers and then my hands swelled up and I was rubbing myself and writhing to relieve the discomfort. I took 2 benedryls and that helped and I remember thinking this morning that I feel still a little reaction and maybe I should take 2 more benedryl but I told myself that it was so little it was fine. It wasn't though. In the middle of my shower I started itching like never before. And when I got out it was pretty bad, so bad that after taking two benedryls I spent about 30 minutes just writhing or wrapping myself up like a burrito in my comforter and just waiting for it to stop. So the day after having an allergic reaction to food, I have an allergic reaction to my shower. And I used body-temperature water instead of the hot water I usually use because something has made me start using less scalding water. Just my 2 cents. Thanks again for the great experiences you guys add that help me.
