One of the biggest scares of an aging man’s life is the thinning of his hair. Or worse, going bald slowly. In desperation, you may try everything out there but eventually, you will have to accept the fact that male pattern baldness is a hereditary condition. There’s nothing you can do about it. Once you’ve accepted this fact, you should start to think what kind of hairstyle fits you. But can balding men even afford the luxury of having hair styles? You will be happy to know that the answer is a resounding yes!
Hairstyles for Balding Men
Short Hair
This one goes without saying, but it still needs to be said. Short hair serves a twofold purpose. First, it makes your hair look fuller, something which long hair cannot do until and unless you have a lot of it. Second, longer hair means more chances of your hair getting tangled while combing or tying, and thus breaking off. And lesser hair on your head is not something you want to look forward to.
Buzz Cut
Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds, Justin Timberlake, Zac Efron – pretty much every hottie in Hollywood has at one point of time rocked the buzz cut. This is one of those hairstyles for balding men that is sleek, simple, edgy and gives an appearance of understated class to anybody rocking this look. It’s especially great for those of you whose hair has started receding near your hairline
Short Caesar Cut
As you can guess by the name, this haircut was inspired by the style of the Roman General Julius Caeser. Back home, this style was popularized by George Clooney and today it has become one of the go-to hairstyles of men rocking salt and pepper hair. You don’t need to have long hair for this hairstyle, and it perfectly hides your thinning top.
The Roger Sterling
If you’re a Mad Men fan, then you know which hairstyle we’re talking about. When you get this look, make sure you tell your barber to make your sides taper so that they can blend smoothly with the rest of your hair.
The Military Crew Cut
Sure, you can opt for the regular crew cut. But why go for it when you have a cooler option at hand – the military crew cut? With only a mop of hair on the top and a buzz cut at the bottom, not only do you look badass but you are also able to take the attention away from your balding hair!
The High and Tight Look
This is one of those hairstyles for balding men that are similar to the military crew cut. Also known as "skin fade", this hairstyle allows only a small mop of hair on the top of your head, with the rest of your hair nearly shaved off. Thus, your thinning/balding spots have hair on them while the rest of your head has lesser to no hair. This only enhances the illusion that you have more hair then you actually do.
The Barista
Again, not a hairstyle that everybody can rock because of its hipster vibe. But if you have the confidence, then I’d say go for it! The most famous celebrity to have rocked this look is David Beckham.
The Power Donut
The name might sound funny (I’ll admit, it is hilarious) but if it serves you the function you’re looking for, then why not? This hairstyle doesn’t require a lot of maintenance or upkeep, which is especially good for men who are on the go or too busy/lazy to give time to regular haircuts. All it requires is trimming occasionally, and that’s it, you’re done!
Complementary Methods for Balding Men
Grow Facial Hair
You’ll rarely get to see a male celeb with thinning hair who also does not rock facial hair. Most of them will have some sort of beard or moustache, and that’s because hair on your face directs attention away from your balding/thinning hair. Goatees work best, but you can definitely opt for moustaches or stylish beard styles as well.
Dye Your Hair
Coloring your hair can instantly lift your appearance, while at the same time giving off the illusion of a thicker mop of hair on your head. Talk to your hairdresser or do some research online to know which colors suit your skin tone the best and which hair color styles compliment thinning hair the best.
