If you are installing a new bathroom floor, you have a great deal of options available to you. Even your choices in of material are quite varied. In fact, your choice of bathroom floor material is very important. Your bathroom floor will have to last for many years and survive a lot of abuse. Some materials make excellent bathroom floors, while others do not. Each has its own particular set of advantages and disadvantages. The following article should help you understand the differences between the various materials that can be used as a bathroom floor.
Part 1
Avoid Carpet
Carpet is a terrible idea for bathroom floors. It is difficult to keep clean and dry, especially with the spilled liquids and moisture that are common in bathrooms. The problem runs deeper than that. If carpeting soaks, it can be seriously damaged and even become moldy below the surface. If that happens, the carpet becomes a respiratory hazard and should be removed. The easiest way to avoid this problem is by not laying carpet in the bathroom.
Wood Choices
It is possible to have a wood floor in a bathroom. If chosen carefully, it can be a good choice; however, not all wood materials are equally viable options. Standard hardwood floors are not the best choice for bathrooms because they can be damaged by moisture. Laminate flooring, which is a layer of decoration and waterproofing over wood chips, is a slightly better option; however, if moisture penetrates the surface, the base will be damaged. Engineered wood is the best choice. It is real wood that is designed to resist moisture.
Tile
Ceramic tile is the most popular choice for bathrooms because it is durable and inexpensive. Ceramic tile is completely waterproof. Cleaning spills from a ceramic tile floor is easy with a towel or mop. Additionally, tile is a natural design choice for bathrooms. Whether it's subway tile or any number of other styles and colors, ceramic tile can be selected to complement any bathroom interiors. Glass tile is a popular alternative to ceramic tile. Glass tiles come with all of the advantages of ceramic tile except that they can be vulnerable to scratching.
Vinyl
Vinyl bathroom floors are an excellent choice for several reasons. Vinyl is cheap, versatile, and easy to install. It is also moisture resistant. In terms of maintenance, cost, and durability, vinyl is a great material; however, it is a less visually appealing choice today than it was in the past. It is usually used as a budget alternative to tile.
Bamboo
Eco-friendly and resistant to moisture and mold, bamboo flooring is a surprisingly viable choice.
